Estyn Inspection Highlights 2026

The Estyn inspection report (February 2026) recognises Ysgol Porth y Felin as a caring and inclusive school where pupils’ wellbeing and development are central to its work.
Key strengths of the school include:

✓ Strong focus on wellbeing – The school places a high priority on pupils’ wellbeing, promoting positive behaviour and strong relationships throughout the school community.

✓ Clear and shared vision – Leaders have established a clear vision based on the principles “Believe, Respect and Succeed”, which is well understood by pupils, staff and parents.

✓ Effective provision for ALN – Support for pupils with additional learning needs is effective, with strong collaboration between staff, parents and external agencies, enabling most pupils to make sound progress.

✓ Broad and rich curriculum – The curriculum successfully develops pupils’ understanding of heritage, identity, moral and spiritual issues, alongside strong creative and artistic skills.

✓ Good standards in key skills – Most pupils demonstrate secure skills in English, mathematics, numeracy and digital competence, applying these confidently across a range of contexts.

✓ Positive attitudes to learning – Many pupils enjoy learning and contribute actively to school life through pupil committees and initiatives such as the Criw Cymraeg.

✓ Supportive leadership and governance – Governors know the school well and provide effective support and challenge. The Friends of the School group makes a valuable contribution to improving resources and opportunities for pupils.

✓ Secure safeguarding and management arrangements – The school’s arrangements for safeguarding, site management and financial management are not a cause for concern.
